Housewives Love Labor-Saving Washers and Dryers, Women live longer. It’s a fact. Perhaps it’s because they know how to avoid work, especially the hard work of wash days. The automatic washing machine has been not only a life saver for housewives but a life lengthener. Almost 30 per cent of the wom en in the Zebulon-We_lell areas have automatic washers. These women know that superior wash ing results are had every time in an automatic machine; and they are safe, convenient, and are the greatest of all household labor savers. ' • The electric clothes dryer is an other question. Not too many women in the Zebulon-Wendell areas — only 1.2 per cent — are using the clothes dryer. But these women who have them are com pletely sold. They stated that clothes can be dried at any time re gardless of the weather, there is ho backbreaking lugging clothes to the line, and clothes come out fluf fier and soft with less ironing re quired. Read what some of the ladies of Zebulon and Wendell have to say about their washers and dry ers. Mrs. Barrie Davis, Zebulon, said, “I had rather do without my hus band than my dryer. Hicks, Jr., Wen dell, has a washer-dryer combina tion and said she is “very pleased with it. Rainy days don’t bother . me now. Another fact is that I don’t have to transfer clothes from a washer into a dryer. * Mrs. Waldo Kennedy, Wendell, has both a washer and dryer, but in separate units. “I think they are both just wonderful,” she said. “I wouldn’t be without them, es pecially this winter. The dryer is just ideal. My family’s clothes, es pecially the knitted things, lingerie and towels come out much softer and fluffier.” * Mrs. E. R. Sykes, Wendell, has a washer-dryer combination and thinks it is “wonderful. I like it for:everything except sheet dry ing,” she said, “but for other kinds of clothes it is just fine. It is espe cially more wonderful when you have an 18-month-old grandchild to wash and dry for,” she added. * Mrs. J. H. Biggs, Wendell, has separate units. Of the washer she said, “I like it very much. It gets clothes clean and wash days are easier. But my dryer, I am crazy about it. I like everything about it. One of the best features is tnat 1 aon i nave get. uui 01 doors and hang clothes out. Be sides, the clothes dried in a dryer have a fluffier, softer feel.” * Mrs. Ben Thomas, Zebulon, said she is “crazy” about her dryer. She has the separate unit, and is very much pleased with it. “I es pecially like the way my sheets come out,” she said.*“I have heard some complaints about sheets dried in a dryer come out wrinkled. If you fold them immediately, I find they do beautifully. And then there is the softness that bath mats and all of the Turkish woven fabrics have when dried in a drsr-” Mrs. W. W. Terrell, Wendell, said she is “sold” on the dryer. “They are absolutely wonderful, especially this time of year. Clothes come out smelling fresher and sweeter. Bath clothes and towels, no matter how old, come out nice and fluffy. Chenille bedspreads, too, come out as if they were new. • Mrs. Thomas Jordon, Wendell, too has the separate units. She is “very much pleased” with each. The main reason she likes the dry er so much is “that I don’t have to go out of doors to hang the clothes out. And they are softer.” * Mrs. Philip Olive, Zebulon, said, (Continued on Page 3) $2.20 PER EXTRA YEAR OF LIFE The average family today spends about $22 a year more for prescriptions than it did in 1929.
